Kabul and Ankara Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The expansion of relations between Afghanistan and Turkey was once again highlighted during the farewell meeting of Turkey’s chargé d’affaires in Kabul with the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
This meeting went beyond a typical farewell ceremony, reflecting Ankara’s active role in regional developments.
Amir Khan Muttaqi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate, met with Cenk Ünal, Turkey’s chargé d’affaires and deputy ambassador in Kabul, stressing the need to strengthen political and economic cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Muttaqi expressed appreciation for Turkey’s role in hosting talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan, describing it as a meaningful step toward easing regional tensions.
During the meeting, Cenk Ünal announced the end of his diplomatic mission and expressed satisfaction with the cooperation he received from the Islamic Emirate throughout his tenure.
Zia Ahmad Takal, Head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: “In this meeting, bilateral and regional issues, as well as the expansion of political and economic relations between the two countries, were discussed.”
Meanwhile, according to the Turkish ambassador in Islamabad, a high-level Turkish delegation, including the head of Turkey’s intelligence agency and several other ministers is expected to travel to Pakistan this week to mediate between Kabul and Islamabad.
This step underscores Turkey’s increasingly active role in managing regional crises.
Seyed Haroon Hashemi, a political analyst, said: “Turkey is an influential country both in the region and the world, and it can help find a peaceful and constructive solution to the current tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.”
International relations experts note that this diplomatic activity, including the farewell meeting in Kabul and the upcoming mediation visit demonstrates Ankara’s efforts to bring Kabul and Islamabad closer and foster multilateral cooperation in the region.
Shir Hassan Hassan, an international relations expert, stated: “Turkey’s efforts to resolve tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan are commendable. Recently, Turkey hosted two rounds of dialogue between the two countries as well.”
Turkey has been one of Afghanistan’s closest political and economic partners over the past two decades. The relationship between the two nations has consistently been based on cooperation, support, and mutual respect.
Turkey’s prior role in hosting two rounds of talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan has further cemented its status as a key regional mediator.
The farewell visit of Turkey’s chargé d’affaires in Kabul is viewed as part of these ongoing efforts and highlights Ankara’s active role in managing regional tensions.
