Taliban emphasize on not escalating clashes after Eid ceasefire

A Taliban spokesman said the group was working to reduce the fighting after a three-day ceasefire.

A Taliban spokesman said their efforts to reduce the intensity of the war were in the interests of advancing the peace process.

Two days before Eid, the Taliban announced ceasefire on 3 days of Eid which began at 12 noon on the first night of Eid and is scheduled to end at 12 pm tonight.

But the government and political officials expect the ceasefire to be permanent.

Three days ago, Mr. Abdullah; the head of the National Reconciliation Council welcomed the Taliban’s announcement of a ceasefire, but said that a short-term ceasefire would not solve the country’s problems and that the only solution was a permanent ceasefire and a cessation of hostilities.
