Japanese Envoy: Tokyo Will Not Interfere in Afghanistan’s Internal Affairs

The Minister of Refugees and Repatriation, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, met with Japanese Ambassador to Kabul, Kenichi Masamoto, to discuss Japan’s continued assistance to Afghanistan, particularly in areas related to repatriation, education, and alternative crop programs.

According to the ministry’s spokesperson, the Japanese ambassador stressed that Tokyo does not interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs and has allocated $19.5 million in humanitarian aid for the Afghan people.

Abdulmutalib Haqqani, the ministry’s spokesperson, said: “Ambassador Masamoto praised the Islamic Emirate’s efforts in combating drugs, fighting corruption, and maintaining security, and affirmed that Japan respects Afghan values and will continue to cooperate with Afghanistan.”

During the meeting, the Minister of Refugees also urged the international community, especially Japan, to support job creation programs for returnees.

Political analyst Idris Mohammadi Zazai said: “We call on Japan to support the Islamic Emirate and the people of Afghanistan.”

Another political expert, Sayed Haroon Hashimi, noted: “Japan has a history of good relations with Afghanistan and has stood by the country in difficult times.”

Japan remains one of the countries that has maintained economic and humanitarian engagement with Afghanistan over the past four years, though it has yet to formally recognize the Islamic Emirate.
