Agriculture Minister Says Political Use of Migrant Deportations Failed

The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan said that neighboring countries, after decades of hosting Afghan migrants, began the forced return of migrants to Afghanistan with the aim of exerting political pressure on the Afghan government, but failed to achieve this goal.

Speaking at the launch of wheat aid distribution for returning migrants in Kandahar, Attaullah Omari said: “Unfortunately, the issue of deporting migrants was used as a political tool, and pressure, oppression, and coercion were applied. I wish this had not happened.”

He also called on neighboring countries to adhere to the principle of good neighborliness.

Meanwhile, some returnees say that their current lives inside the country are better and more peaceful compared to their lives in neighboring countries.

Musa Jan, one of the returnees, said: “We are very happy with the Islamic Emirate for helping the migrants.”

Another returnee, Gul Ahmad, said: “Naturally, we are happy because we faced many problems there, and after returning to the country, assistance was provided to us. Every Muslim would be pleased with such actions.”

According to officials, since the start of the deportation process of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries, nearly 4.5 million migrants have returned to Afghanistan, and necessary assistance has been provided to all of them.
