200 Tons of Cottonseed Oil Produced Daily in Kandahar

Around 200 tons of oil are produced daily from cottonseed in Kandahar’s industrial park.
Factory officials say the production meets international standards, with demand steadily increasing in the market.
Salman Shah Kakar, a factory official, said: “This is a domestic product of Afghanistan and meets international standards. Demand is increasing day by day.”
A factory worker said: “We work on oil production here and pack four containers of oil in each carton.”
Officials from the Kandahar Chamber of Mines and Industries say that currently 30 factories are active in producing oil from cottonseed in the industrial park.
They add that production increases during the cotton harvest season.
Sayed Sarwar Amani, head of the chamber, said: “About 200 tons of standard oil are produced daily in these factories. This is seasonal production; whenever cotton is harvested, we process it until the end of the season. Currently, there are 30 cotton processing factories in Kandahar, and annually up to 50,000 tons of oil are produced.”
According to available information, more than $3 million has been invested in oil refining in Kandahar, and the oil produced is distributed to different provinces across the country.
