14,000 Domestic, 600 Foreign Visitors Tour Herat Museum

The Herat Department of Information and Culture says that in the past year, around 14,000 domestic tourists and more than 600 foreign visitors have visited the province’s museum.
The museum houses more than 4,000 diverse historical artifacts, some of which date back up to 20,000 years.
The head of the Herat Museum, Naqibullah Haqmal, said: “Professional staff work at the Herat Museum, and it is managed by them. When domestic and foreign visitors come, we welcome them and provide information about the exhibits. Historical artifacts that were previously unregistered have now been recorded.”
The museum’s historical artifacts reflect Afghanistan’s identity, values, history, and culture.
Jafar, a resident of Kabul who visited the museum, said: “I came from Kabul, stopped in Kandahar along the way, and have now arrived in Herat. I came to the museum to see Herat’s ancient artifacts.”
The Herat Museum, after the National Museum in Kabul, is the country’s second largest and oldest museum, located in the Ikhtyaruddin Citadel.
Cultural affairs expert Ariana Nazari said: “In the Ikhtyaruddin Citadel, we have a museum with a very long history. It is said that when Alexander the Great came to Ariana, the foundation of this museum was laid and construction work was carried out.”
Most of the museum’s artifacts belong to various historical periods, including the Stone Age, Samanids, Ghaznavids, Timurids, Seljuks, and the contemporary era.
