Mirziyoyev: Trans-Afghan Corridor Key to Southern Waters

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at the official opening ceremony of the Fifth Tashkent International Forum that Uzbekistan is working intensively on the Trans-Afghan Corridor to gain access to southern waters.

Mirziyoyev emphasized during the event that through this initiative, they will gain access to the transportation network linking Asia and Europe.

The President of Uzbekistan added: “We are working intensively on the Trans-Afghan Corridor to gain access to southern waters, as well as on the development of transportation in other sectors. Through these efforts, we will gain access to the transportation network that connects Asia and Europe.”

According to analysts, the broad participation of government officials, investors, and representatives of international companies at the forum demonstrates that the Trans-Afghan Corridor is no longer merely a transit project; it has evolved into a strategic economic initiative aimed at connecting Central Asia to southern waters and global markets.

Economic analyst Mirshakib Mir said: “The implementation of the Afghan-Trans project can create opportunities to increase Afghanistan’s revenues, while also strengthening economic growth and employment generation in the country. In addition, the project can reinforce Afghanistan’s position as a bridge between Central and South Asia.”

The participation of the delegation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the Tashkent International Forum comes as relations between Kabul and Tashkent have expanded in recent years, particularly in the areas of trade, transit, energy, and the Trans-Afghan Corridor project.

Uzbekistan is considered one of Afghanistan’s key economic partners, and both sides have repeatedly emphasized the development of regional cooperation and greater economic connectivity between Central and South Asia.

The Tashkent International Forum, attended by government officials, private sector representatives, and experts from various countries, will continue tomorrow.
