Kapisa Wheat Harvest Meets 40% of Province’s Needs

Officials from Kapisa’s Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock say wheat production has increased this year, allowing farmers to meet up to 40% of the province’s needs through domestic production.

According to officials, improved farming methods, the use of certified seeds and better agricultural support services have been key factors behind the increase in wheat yields.

Mohammad Shafi Sediqi, head of horticulture affairs at the Kapisa Department of Agriculture, said: “Agricultural conditions in Kapisa look positive, and our harvests have increased by 2% compared with last year. With this wheat harvest, we can meet the needs of around 40% of Kapisa’s population.”

Meanwhile, a number of farmers in Kapisa say they continue to face challenges despite higher yields.

They are calling for greater support for agriculture, increased domestic production, more attention to farmers’ needs and improved agricultural services and facilities.

Farmer Mohibullah said: “We ask the Department of Agriculture to support us so that we can achieve even higher yields next year.”

Another farmer, Ahmad Saeed, said: “This year’s harvest is good, and crops have not been affected by diseases.”

According to the Kapisa Department of Agriculture, wheat was cultivated on 12,353 hectares of land in the province this year, producing a total harvest of 34,558 metric tons.
