Islamic Emirate Leader Orders Swift Completion of Wakhan Corridor Road

Badakhshan Governor Mohammad Ismail Ghaznawi says the leader of the Islamic Emirate has issued a special directive ordering the rapid completion of the Wakhan Corridor road project and its early opening for public use.

According to Ghaznawi, the Wakhan Corridor road is one of the Islamic Emirate’s key priority projects.

He said: “This is a major project. Some people believe work has not yet begun, but Amir al-Mu’minin has issued a special and urgent order for the swift completion of this road.”

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff of the Islamic Emirate’s Ministry of Defense, Fasihuddin Fitrat, said that if a decision is made to open the Wakhan Corridor route, security forces are fully prepared to ensure its security.

He said: “If any plan for opening this route is implemented, our security forces are fully prepared to provide security, and we assure neighboring countries in this regard.”

Economic analysts say the Wakhan Corridor will facilitate the movement of commercial goods and provide traders with faster and easier access to regional markets compared to other transit routes.

Economic analyst Ghulam Haidar Atashpour said: “Wakhan is not only Afghanistan’s gateway; it is also an important route connecting Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Türkiye, and even Eastern European countries.”

Earlier, the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development announced that construction of the Wakhan Corridor road is underway in two sections.

According to the ministry, once completed, the project will connect Afghanistan with China through the Wakhan Corridor, creating new opportunities for trade, transit, and regional economic cooperation.
