19 Historical Sites and Artifacts Registered in Nuristan

Local officials in Nuristan say 19 historical sites and ancient artifacts have been registered in the province.

Officials say some of these historical sites and artifacts were damaged and illegally excavated during years of conflict and due to neglect.

They added that a special security unit has been assigned to protect the historical sites.

Sami-ul-Haq Haq Bayan, Director of Information and Culture in Nuristan, said: “Among the well-known sites are religious places where people from this area used to travel for pilgrimage.”

Residents of the province are calling on the relevant authorities to take practical steps to restore and preserve these historical sites and artifacts so that this national heritage can be protected for future generations instead of deteriorating further.

Mohammad Zaman Shakir, a resident of Nuristan, said: “Mandol Hos, Wama Bagh, and several other sites need restoration.”

Another resident, Zulqafar Nuristani, said: “Nuristan has many historical sites. Those that have been identified should be restored.”

Meanwhile, university lecturers and several historians say historical artifacts are an important part of a nation’s identity and history. They say preserving them not only protects cultural values but also supports academic research, tourism, and economic development.

Dost Mohammad Wahdat, a university lecturer in Nuristan, said: “Preserving a nation’s history is reflected in how well it protects its historical sites and artifacts.”

Historians believe that protecting and restoring historical sites and artifacts is essential for safeguarding the country’s cultural identity, tourism industry, and historical heritage. They say future generations should be familiar with their history, civilization, and cultural values, making the preservation of these sites and artifacts vital.
