Mujahid: Foreign-Funded Projects Served Foreign Interests
Islamic Emirate spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid says foreign countries implemented development projects in Afghanistan only to serve their own interests.
Speaking at the inauguration of a ground transportation project in Kandahar, Mujahid said major development projects are now funded through Afghanistan’s domestic budget and are based on the needs of Afghans.
Mujahid said: “Development in the country will change the face of Afghanistan. All these projects are funded through Afghanistan’s own budget. Our projects are not dependent on any country or implemented at anyone’s request; they are based on the needs of Afghans.”
Mawlawi Adam, Kandahar’s transport director, said: “The Ministry of Transport has important road management projects in Kandahar, as in other parts of the country, and we are committed to the quality of the work.”
Residents also say major development projects are important for creating jobs and reducing poverty.
Mirza Sultani, a Kandahar resident, said: “Implementing major projects creates job opportunities and helps protect people from poverty. It is important that development also creates employment opportunities.”
Another Kandahar resident, Abdul Latif, said: “This Transport Ministry project will help organize the city, create jobs and provide facilities.”
Islamic Emirate officials cite the Qosh Tepa Canal, construction of the country’s ring road, and continued work on the TAPI and CASA-1000 projects among their major achievements.
