Ahmad Bashir Samim was appointed governor of Badakhshan

The Independent Directorate of Local Governance says Ahmad Bashir Samim has been appointed governor of Badakhshan province.

The statement from the directorate states that according to the proposal of the Independent Directorate of Local Authorities and the decree of the President; Mr. Ahmad Bashir Samim was appointed Governor of Badakhshan Province.

Meanwhile, 8 people were killed and about 45 others were injured as a result of recent protests by Badakhshan residents over insecurity and water problems in the province.

Zakaria Soda, the former governor of Badakhshan, is said to have been fired in connection with the incident.
