Taliban attacks on Talqan city repulsed

The 217th Pamir Corps reports that security forces have repulsed Taliban fighters attacks on the city of Talqan in Takhar province.

Last night, Taliban fighters launched their offensive from Cheshmeh Shir, Abdal, Kanjak Saraisang and Qala-e-Zubin forts in Talqan, the capital of Takhar province, which was met with strong resistance from joint security forces and popular uprisings and they were pushed back, the statement said.

As a result of the clashes, 40 Taliban fighters were killed and about 30 others were wounded, the statement added.

Takhar is one of the northern provinces of Afghanistan where Taliban fighters control several districts.
