دولت جاپان نگرانی خود را نسبت به تلاش‌های آمریکا برای تضعیف یا انحلال محکمه کیفری بین‌المللی (ICC) ابراز کرده و اعلام کردهاست که این روند را از نزدیک دنبال می‌کند. به گزارش کیودو نیوز، مینورو کیهارا، سخن‌گوی دولت جاپان، گفت توکیو با نگرانی اقدامات واشنگتن را زیر نظر دارد؛ جاپان که بزرگ‌ترین تأمین‌کننده مالی محکمه کیفری بین‌المللی است، فشارهای آمریکا را تهدیدی برای اجرای عدالت و حقوق بین‌الملل می‌داند. محکمه کیفری بین‌المللی مستقر در لاهه، هم‌اکنون تحت ریاست توموکو آکانه، حقوقدان جاپانی، فعالیت می‌کند.
