Peace talks between Afghanistan and the Taliban have been delayed

Reuters reports from outside sources that the delegations are waiting to see what policy US President Joe Biden will pursue on Afghanistan
According to Reuters, negotiators want to make sure that the next US president follows Donald Trump’s timetable
A member of the Taliban negotiating team, who did not want to be named, told Reuters that they were waiting for the new US administration’s policy to see how committed it was to the Qatar agreement
He said that if the Americans did not live up to their commitments to withdraw troops from Afghanistan, the Taliban would take serious action and re-establish extremist war in key areas
Fraidoon Khozon, a spokesman for the Supreme National Reconciliation Council, also said that the government and Taliban negotiating delegations had not met for three days, but did not specify why
He said they were still engaged in internal discussions and consulting on the agenda set for inter-Afghan talks
Biden is scheduled to be sworn in next Wednesday
