Explosion in front of the gate of Balkh district police command

Sources in Balkh report that a car bomb had exploded in front of the Balkh District Police Command.

Mohammad Afzal Hadid; The head of the Balkh Provincial Council said that the incident was caused by the explosion of a Humvee tank that exploded this afternoon in front of the entrance gate of the Balkh District Police Command.

He said the incident resulted in casualties but did not provide exact figures.

The head of the Balkh Provincial Council added that the Balkh district police chief was also wounded in the blast.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the incident, writing on Twitter that dozens of security personnel had been killed or wounded in the blast.
