The Taliban captured two districts in the two northern provinces
Sources report the fall of Khwaja Sabzpoosh district of Faryab and Baharak-e-Takhar to Taliban fighters.
Sources in Takhar say that this morning, after clashes between security forces and Taliban fighters, Baharak district of the province was captured by the fighters of this group.
According to these sources, the district had been under siege by Taliban fighters for nearly a week.
Meanwhile, sources in Faryab also say that the Khwaja Sabzposh district of the province has fallen to Taliban fighters.
Aqa Muhammad Noori, a member of the Faryab provincial council, said that the district police chief and 13 of his entourage had surrendered to the Taliban as a result of an attack by Taliban fighters yesterday.
He added that with the fall of the district, Taliban fighters have arived to the gates of Maimana.
Security officials have not officially commented on the floods in the districts.
