The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the removal of the Afghan National Police from the UN Secretary General’s infamous list.

A statement from the ministry said that in the UN Secretary-General’s 2020 report on children and military conflict the Afghan National Police Action Plan to prevent recruitment and reduce violence against children was successful.

The statement added that the removal of the Afghan National Police from the UN Secretary-General’s infamous list was a result of ongoing progress in implementing the national action plan and preventing the recruitment of children into the country’s security forces.

The State Department says the progress demonstrates the Afghan government’s commitment to international values of human rights and good governance.

The ministry called on all countries and international institutions to put political pressure and impose sanctions on the Taliban and other armed opposition groups to prevent child labor and violence.
