The House of Representatives called on the United Nations to protect Afghan women from Taliban threats

“Discrimination and inhumane and Islamic treatment of women in Taliban-held areas is a matter of concern,” Mir Rahman Rahmani, speaker of the House of Representatives, told a plenary session today.

Mr. Rahmani called on the United Nations, the Afghan Human Rights Commission, women’s advocacy organizations, and domestic and international civil society organizations to support Afghan women against the Taliban.

According to some reports, Taliban fighters in the areas under their control have imposed restrictions on women, forcing them to wear the burqa.
