Jalina Porter: About 100 American citizens remain in Afghanistan

About 100 U.S. citizens remain in Afghanistan, said Jalina Porter, the US vice president’s spokeswoman.

Porter, however, did not give an estimate of the exact number of Americans remaining in Afghanistan, adding that the situation was changing rapidly.

Earlier, White House spokesman John Saki said that about 100 American remained in Afghanistan and that four of them had been able to leave the country by land.

With the Taliban taking control of Afghanistan and the short deadline given by the group to leave for the United States, the United States accelerated the withdrawal of American citizens and Afghans who had cooperated with foreign forces.

As a result, the United States announced that it had withdrawn nearly 80000 people from Afghanistan during the evacuation process.
