The United States has authorized humanitarian aid to the Taliban government

The US Treasury Department’s press service on Friday issued two licenses allowing government and non-governmental organizations to cooperate with the Taliban or the Haqqani network to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.

The ministry said in a statement that the two licenses would allow the export of health medicines and food, and that aid organizations could send humanitarian aid, such as medicines, food and agricultural products, to Afghanistan in joint operations with the Taliban and the Haqqani network.

“We have not eased the pressure of sanctions on Taliban leaders and the significant restrictions on their access to the international financial system,” the ministry added.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said some sanctions against the Taliban should be lifted in order to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
