Russia backed the Taliban’s will to fight ISIS

Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Russia’s foreign minister said his country supported the Taliban’s will to fight ISIS.

“Russia supports the Taliban’s determination to fight ISIS in Afghanistan,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was quoted as saying by Sputnik.

“The determination of the Taliban, as they stated, is that we will do our best to Suppress ISIS and other terrorist groups,” he added.

Earlier, the Russian foreign minister said that the new Taliban government did not reflect the whole spectrum of society.

“Unfortunately, the hasty withdrawal of US and other NATO troops from Afghanistan took place without any knowledge of the consequences, and as you know, the consequences are that many,” he said, referring to the hasty withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.
