China builds military base for Tajikistan on border with Afghanistan

Tajikistan has signed a draft agreement with China to build a military base in the Wakhan-Badakhshan region.

According to Sputnik, the Tajik parliament has announced that under the agreement, China will be able to build a $ 8.9 million military base for the country’s army to fight terrorism.

Meanwhile, the base is reportedly to be built in the Ishkashim district of Badakhshan province, which borders China’s Xinjiang province and Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province.

According to the agreement, all equipment imported from China during the construction of the base will be exempt from taxes and customs duties, and all construction costs will be provided by China, but no Chinese forces will be present.

The military base is said to be 3,550 square meters, which will include 12 buildings including an office building, a dormitory, a dining room, a residence for Tajik security officials and their families, a water tank and two watchtowers.
