Tajikistan denies building a Chinese military base on the border with Afghanistan

Tajikistan’s Interior Ministry has issued a statement denying reports that China has built a military base for the country on the border with Afghanistan, saying a joint military exercise is scheduled to take place in Tajikistan’s Badakhshan province under a cooperation agreement between the two countries.

However, the Chinese Foreign Ministry also said in response to the published reports: “We can say with confidence that China does not have a military base in Central Asia.”

Meanwhile, it is reported that all the equipment and the cost of this exercise will be paid by China.

Earlier, Reuters reported that China was to build a military base on the Afghan border for Tajikistan, all of which would be paid for by China.
