The government of Islamabad and the Pakistani Taliban have agreed to a ceasefire

Pakistan’s Ministry of Intelligence has announced a ceasefire between the government of Islamabad and the Pakistani Taliban.

Pakistani Minister of Intelligence Chaudhry Fawad Hussain told a news conference in Islamabad that the Pakistani government had agreed with the Pakistani Taliban to establish a ceasefire, but did not provide details on the duration of the ceasefire.

He added that talks between the Pakistani government and the Pakistani Taliban began on October 1 and that both sides had agreed on an absolute ceasefire.

Hussein stressed that the talks would be conducted in accordance with Pakistani law and the constitution, adding that the ceasefire could be extended according to the negotiation process.

The Pakistani Taliban have not yet commented on the ceasefire.
