Pentagon: Dozens of families close to the US military are still in Afghanistan

The Pentagon says dozens of families close to US troops remain in Afghanistan almost three months after the withdrawal.
According to Fox News, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told reporters at a news conference yesterday that dozens of families close to US troops were still in Afghanistan, adding that he did not have exact details on the number of such families.
“We believe there are certainly dozens of cases, but one of the reasons we published this memo last week was to encourage members of the service to come forward,” Kirby said.
However, a defense note sent by the ministry last week called on the military and civilians to provide information about close family members who remain in Afghanistan.
“That’s why we advised services last week to give them a place, a portal where they can go and put information in, and we can share it with our State Department colleagues,” he added. “To get them out.”
Kirby also reiterated that the mission to oust the Americans from Afghanistan is not over and that defense officials “will continue to work inside the ministry to do so.”
Asked if there were any concerns for the welfare of the families of soldiers who remained in Afghanistan, Kirby said: “Of course there is.”
