FAO: Millions of people in Afghanistan are living on the brink of disaster

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) says about 19 million people in Afghanistan are unable to provide their daily food.
Emphasizing that the number of these people is likely to increase to 22.8 million by the end of the year, the organization has announced that it will provide them with livelihoods to support farmers and ranchers, seeds, fertilizers, and cash.
“Millions of Afghans are living on the brink of disaster, which will happen if their animals die or their farms are not planted,” said Kyo Dongyu, director general of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
Emphasizing that agriculture is the backbone of Afghanistan’s livelihood and vital to the country’s economy, the organization added that $ 115 million is needed to help 5 million people this winter and spring.
The United Nations has repeatedly warned of a possible humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan.
