Tajik President warns of widespread famine in Afghanistan

The President of Tajikistan says that with the arrival of winter and the extreme cold and famine in Afghanistan, there is a possibility of a humanitarian catastrophe.
Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon on Sunday addressed the 15th summit of the ECO Economic Cooperation Organization in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, stressing that Afghanistan is on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe. Worsen and lead to widespread famine.
“The people of Afghanistan must provide humanitarian assistance through the structures of the United Nations and international humanitarian organizations,” he was quoted as saying by the Tajik president’s press office.
“Further development of joint projects in the economy, trade, internal transit (ECO) depends on stabilizing the military-political situation and security in the country,” he added.
