The President of Uzbekistan: If we do not act, Afghanistan will remain a source of threat to regional security

The President of Uzbekistan has said that Afghanistan can remain a source of serious challenges and threats to regional security for a long time if the international community does not take effective and coordinated action.

In an interview with a Kazakh media outlet, Uzbek President Shukat Mirziyoyev said that Afghanistan could remain a source of serious challenges and threats to regional security for a long time if the international community did not take effective and coordinated action.

“If we do not take effective and coordinated action, Afghanistan can remain a source of new challenges and threats to regional security for a long time to come, to achieve peace and stability in the country, to expand as well as new strategic opportunities to implement projects,” he said. “Economic greatness opens up energy of regional and international importance to it.”

“In my view, to prevent the situation from escalating, it is necessary to expand talks with the new officials of the country, as well as to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan and, more importantly, to prevent a humanitarian crisis and international isolation,” Mirziyoyev added.

However, the government has not been recognized in Afghanistan since the Taliban took control, and the United Nations recently did not cede Afghanistan’s seat to the group.
