Pakistan is working to launch Afghanistan’s banking system

Pakistan’s foreign minister says his country is working to restart Afghanistan’s banking system.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said in an interview with a newspaper that the first big step towards economic stability in Afghanistan would be to launch the country’s banking system.

Emphasizing that Islamabad and OIC countries should help Afghans build capacity, the Pakistani foreign minister added that many Afghans living abroad want to help their families by repaying money.

Qureshi has called on the international community to pay attention to the Afghan people, adding that ordinary Afghans are suffering because of no fault of their own.

He added that if the Afghan crisis is not addressed, groups such as al-Qaeda and ISIS will use it.

Meanwhile, the 17th special meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers is scheduled to take place in Pakistan tomorrow, Sunday, at the invitation of Saudi Arabia and hosted by Islamabad.
