Kamala Harris: The situation of women in the shadow of the Taliban is worrying

The US vice president has said that the situation of women and girls in the shadow of Taliban rule is worrying.

“I am concerned that the Taliban consider what we consider to be the proper treatment of girls and women,” US Vice President Kamala Harris told CBS News yesterday. “It has not been observed, and that is why our position against the Taliban is what you see, because this is one of our biggest concerns.”

“One of the main issues we have with any conversation with the Taliban is exactly how the group treats women and girls, access to education, as well as concerns about the fight against terrorism,” she added.

Harris said the United States, in cooperation with the United Nations and other international organizations, is providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan to circumvent the Taliban and work to ensure support for Afghan women and girls.
