A journalist was beaten by unknown individuals in Kabul

The Afghan Journalists’ Center says a journalist has been severely beaten by unknown individuals in Kabul.

A statement from Afghan Journalists’ Center quoted Zaki Qais, a former managing director of Khawar TV, as saying that he had been severely beaten last night by unknown individuals in Kabul who identified themselves as security personnel.

The agency has asked officials from the Taliban-led government to investigate the incident and share its findings with the media.

Violence against journalists and media workers has escalated sharply since the Taliban’s government took office.

The agency called on the Taliban’s administration to abide by its previous commitments during the Doha peace talks to respect journalists and The media and their security should act so that the current atmosphere of fear and self-censorship ends as soon as possible and journalists and the media can continue to work in a free and fearless environment.

However, Taliban officials in Kabul have not yet commented.
