Australia accepts 15,000 Afghan refugees

Australian officials say the country will provide asylum to 15,000 Afghan refugees in the coming years.

Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke wrote on his Twitter account yesterday that, given the current humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, it was decided to increase the granting of asylum to Afghan refugees. Family interests will provide immigrant visas for 15,000 Afghans. “Australia will give priority to those who have worked with our defense forces and State Department agents, and to other minorities, including women and girls.”

However, the Interior Ministry says it has received more than 32,000 asylum applications so far.

However, after the Taliban took control, a large wave of Afghan migration to other countries began.
