UN: Humanitarian aid is not enough to meet the needs of the Afghan people

The United Nations says humanitarian aid alone is not enough to meet the needs of the Afghan people and will not be able to meet their long-term needs.
“We have already announced and demanded the release of the confiscated assets in Afghanistan,” UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s spokesman Stephen Dujarric told a news conference yesterday. It is also important to acknowledge that humanitarian aid alone is not enough. “To the extent that it can meet the enormous needs of the people in the long run.”
He added that rebuilding Afghanistan’s economy in a sustainable way is vital to meeting the needs of the Afghan people.
