The United Nations called for the release of Afghanistan’s frozen resources

The UN Secretary-General says Afghanistan’s blocked reserves must be released.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told a briefing at the Security Council that Afghanistan’s economy should be activated through efforts to free up foreign exchange reserves and pursue liquidity injection projects.
“We cannot leave the people of Afghanistan,” Guterres said, stressing that six months have passed since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan but that the country is still in crisis.
He also called on the Taliban to immediately expand opportunities and security for all Afghans, recognize human rights and actively demonstrate their commitment to participating in the international community.
“The window is open for confidence-building. But that trust must be built,” he said.
According to the Secretary-General of the UN, Afghanistan’s collapse and icy winter have left many people in food insecurity and poverty, with families selling their young children in exchange for basic necessities.
