UNICEF: The number of premature births and low birth weight babies in Afghanistan has increased

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says the number of low birth weight and premature births in Afghan hospitals has increased.

UNICEF says about 30 premature births and low birth weight babies are registered in Afghanistan every day.

It also expressed concern that most hospitals in Afghanistan lacked medical equipment, adding that the number of pediatric beds in these hospitals is low and there is currently one bed for both children.

However, the non-payment of most salaries of health workers in some provinces has also created a major challenge in the field of health in the country.

A number of health workers in some provinces have even gone on strike over the non-payment of their salaries.
