SIGAR: The lack of employment of women in Afghanistan has hit the country’s economy

The US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) has said that the lack of employment for women in Afghanistan has hit the Afghan economy by $ 1 billion.
SIGAR said in a Twitter message yesterday that more than 20 percent of Afghanistan’s workforce before the Taliban took control of the country were women, working as teachers, health professionals, journalists, judges and lawyers.
According to the agency, Afghanistan has now lost 5 percent of its gross domestic product due to the ban on women labor.
Earlier, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimated that Afghanistan’s gross domestic product fell by 20 to 30 percent last year.
