Eight polio vaccination workers killed in northern Afghanistan

Eight polio vaccine workers have been killed in separate incidents in northern Afghanistan.

Eight staff members of the polio vaccine have been killed in northern Afghanistan, Dr. Rams Al-Akbarov, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Afghanistan, wrote on his Twitter account.

He said the men were killed in four separate incidents in Kunduz city and in the Imam Sahib district of the province, as well as in Takhar province in northern Afghanistan.

According to him, the nationwide polio vaccination campaign in Kunduz and Takhar provinces is currently suspended.

Earlier, the United Nations announced that 1.5 million children in Afghanistan would be vaccinated as polio begins.
