The financing of the TAPI project was stopped by the Asian Development Bank

The Asian Development Bank has suspended funding for the TAPI project due to the non-recognition of the Taliban government by the international community.

Pakistan’s News International quoted Pakistan’s Energy Minister Hamad Azhar as saying that the ADB had suspended all work on the TAPI project until further notice.

Meanwhile, a senior Pakistani Ministry of Energy official stressed that much of the TAPI project passes through Afghanistan, saying that the ADB, as the donor and coordinator of the project, has stopped all its activities and put the project in a state of stagnation.

The ADB also said it would continue to consult with stakeholders to assess and monitor the situation in Afghanistan.

The TAPI project will stretch for about 1,800 km, and if completed, about 33 billion cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas will be transported annually through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India.

The ADB is suspending funding for the TAPI project, but more than seven months later, the Taliban government, which the group calls temporary, is still unrecognized by any country.
