The first Nowruz without a holiday in Afghanistan

Today, the first day of 1401 AH, is not a holiday according to the decision of the Taliban government and government offices in Afghanistan are not closed.

The Taliban government has stated that all government employees and students must be present in their offices and classrooms on the first day of new year.

However, the Taliban government has not officially announced the cancellation of the Nowruz holiday and has verbally informed various departments that Nowruz will not be closed.

The Taliban have recently stated that they will not celebrate Nowruz, but they will not prevent it.

This is despite the fact that before the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the first day of new year in this country was closed every year and people celebrated this day as Nowruz.
