The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed disappointment with the Taliban’s decision to keep girls’ schools closed

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed disappointment with the Taliban’s decision to close secondary schools and girls’ high schools in Afghanistan.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation tweeted that it was deeply disappointed with the Taliban’s decision to keep schools closed to girls above the sixth grade.

On the other hand, following the reactions to the Taliban’s decision to extend the closure of girls’ high schools in Afghanistan, the Taliban’s move was seen as a potential turning point in its bilateral relations with the group.

“On the cancellation of our meetings in Doha,” State Department spokeswoman Jalina Porter told reporters yesterday. “In fact, we canceled some of our planned contacts, including the Doha meetings, and explicitly stated that we considered the Taliban decision a potential turning point in our engagement.”

He added that Washington insists that the Taliban’s decision be reconsidered immediately, as it would “cause serious harm to the Afghan people, the country’s economic growth prospects and the Taliban’s desire to improve its relations with the international community.”
