The US State Department’s representative for Afghan women says the issue of girls’ education in Afghanistan has created divisions among members of the Taliban leadership.
Reina Amiri, the US State Department’s representative for Afghan women, in an interview with the TRT News Agency, accused a group of Taliban who, with a limited view of Sharia, preventing all girls from returning to school.
Emphasizing that the Taliban’s move is an unprecedented decision among Islamic countries, he added that the group must make its final decision on the education of female high school students.
“Some people within the Taliban understand that reopening schools is the right decision, because it is also in the direction of their political survival,” Ms. Amiri said.
According to him, Afghans have also expressed dissatisfaction and anger with the Taliban’s decision. Because, the majority of the people of this country are in favor of girls’ education.
