A child was killed by a landmine in Uruzgan

Local sources in Uruzgan report that two children were killed and injured as a result of a mine explosion in the province.
Agha Wali Qureshi, spokesman for the Uruzgan police chief, said that a child was killed and another was injured when a mine exploded in Dick area of the province yesterday.
According to him, the mine was left over from the wars and exploded when children were playing with it.
Last week, a child was killed when an unexploded mortar shell exploded in Hasakah district of Nangarhar province.
Earlier, however, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) also expressed concern about the increase in child casualties due to the explosion of unexploded ordnance left over from the war in Afghanistan.
