Three children died as a result of a mine explosion in Faryab

Local sources in Faryab say three children have been killed in a landmine explosion in the province.

According to these sources, the incident took place this morning in Qaisar district of the province and as a result, one person was injured.

Sources add that the incident was caused by a landmine and exploded while children were playing.

Dozens of civilians have been killed in the last few months as a result of explosive remnants of war in most provinces of the country.

Earlier, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) expressed concern about the increase in child casualties from the explosion of unexploded ordnance left over from the war in Afghanistan.

The agency said in a statement that 301 children had been killed and injured in a series of unexploded ordnance (UXO) explosions in the past seven months.
