The Taliban have called on female UN staff in Kabul to observe the hijab

A statement issued by the United Nations in which the Ministry of Promoting and Prohibiting Virtue of the Taliban called on female employees of the organization to observe the hijab.

The UN statement, posted on Twitter by Heidar Barr, head of the women’s section at Human Rights Watch, said that Ministry of Promoting the Good and Forbidding the Bad of the Taliban staff had gone to the UN office in Kabul and demanded that female staff members must wear the hijab.

The deputy director of the women’s section of Human Rights Watch on Twitter, while asking UNAMA how it protects the safety and freedom of its colleagues, added: “The Islamic Emirate claims that the new decree recommends covering women, but they are forced to do so.

Earlier, the ministry issued a decree mandating the observance of the hijab in which the black chador and hijab are mentioned as examples of hijab.
