Karzai: Covering the face is not a hijab, but a foreign tradition

Reacting to the Taliban imposing hijab on women and girls, the former Afghan president says that it is not the hijab, but the tradition of some other countries.

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai in an interview with CNN stressed that Afghanistan is an Islamic country and the issue of hijab is clear.

He said that women in Afghanistan observe the hijab, but coverıng the face ıs not a hijab ıt is a tradition in some countries.

He also mentioned the burqa as a culture imported from foreign countries.

The former Afghan president also spoke about the Taliban’s new order to cover the faces of female presenters on television during the program, saying that women should not follow this order.

The Ministry of Promoting the Good and Prohibiting the Bad of the Taliban announced two days ago in a new order that the female presenters should cover their faces while performing the program.

Tolo TV wrote in a tweet that the Ministry of Commanding the good and forbidding the bad of the Taliban told Moby Group and the TV channel in a new order that after this, all female presenters should cover their faces while performing the program.

The TV channel wrote that the order was sent by the Taliban to all TV channels.

Earlier, the Taliban issued a decree making it obligatory for women and girls to wear the hijab in public places.
