Deborah Lions spoke with Amir Khan Mottaqi about the economic situation in Afghanistan

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan met with Amir Khan Mottaqi, the Taliban’s acting foreign minister, to discuss the economic situation in Afghanistan.
The Taliban Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Deborah Lions, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, met with the Acting Minister yesterday to discuss key issues, including the economic situation, banking and private sector development, and humanitarian aid.
The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan said that UNAMA and the United States do not want the banking sector in Afghanistan to be weakened.
Ms. Lines stressed that the leading obstacles will be resolved through dialogue.
Acting Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaqi also said during the meeting that the group’s government is committed to cooperating with all institutions working for the development of Afghanistan.
Deborah Lines, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, had previously called on the international community to take action to prevent the Afghan economy from collapsing at a Security Council meeting on Afghanistan.
He also called on the international community to engage with the current rulers of Afghanistan, saying that it would be difficult to help the Afghan people without engaging with the current government.
However, the Taliban government, which the group calls interim, has not yet been recognized by any country.
