Deputy UN High Commissioner for Refugees met with Abbas Stanekzai

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), who is currently in Afghanistan, met today with Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, the Taliban’s Deputy Foreign Minister, to ensure that a favorable environment is created for IDPs and returnees.
Taliban Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi tweeted that the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)’s Kelly Clementes had said during the meeting that she would raise the issue of migrants in trips to host countries and in trilateral meetings to create a conducive environment. It will also increase its activities and staff for IDPs and returnees.
During the meeting, the Taliban Deputy Foreign Minister also called on the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to assist in ensuring that international countries meet international immigration standards and address issues related to immigration documents and travel.
