China sends $ 7.5 million in aid to earthquake victims in Afghanistan

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman says his country will send $ 7.5 million in humanitarian aid to the quake victims in Afghanistan.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said the recent quake was the strongest in 20 years in Afghanistan, adding that the country had decided to provide 50 million yuan in emergency humanitarian aid to the quake victims in the aftermath of the quake.
He added that the aid includes tents, camps, beds and other basic necessities for the people of Afghanistan, and that the first shipment of aid will be sent to Afghanistan by charter flight on June 27.
He said his country would work closely with the Afghan interim Taliban government to ensure that humanitarian aid is sent quickly to the victims and to help the Afghan people overcome the difficulties.
A strong earthquake shook parts of Afghanistan last Wednesday, killing and injuring more than 3000 people in Paktika, Khost and Nangarhar provinces.
