The Human Rights Commission has expressed concern over the killing of civilians in Afghanistan

The Afghan Human Rights Commission, which has now been disbanded by the Taliban-led government, has condemned human rights abuses, expressing concern about being targeted, individuals, civilian places and human rights abuses by the Taliban during the war.

The commission said in a statement that recent Taliban attacks in Panjshir, Baghlan and in recent days in Balkhab district of Sar-e-Pul province had resulted in the killing and shooting of civilians.

The commission called on all parties to the war in Afghanistan, including the Taliban, to respect human rights principles and standards and to abide by accepted rules of war.

The Commission on Human Rights also called on the United Nations to take practical and immediate action under the Charter of the United Nations and other credible international instruments to stop the killing of civilians, to protect the human rights of citizens and to document cases of international human rights and humanitarian violations.

However, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted yesterday, dismissing reports of civilian casualties in Balkhab district, saying that no civilians had been harmed in the district.
